About RootBound
A private place for one family’s record — the tree, the memories, and who may see what.
Why it exists
Families scatter. Photos end up in chat threads, dates live in one person’s head, and the story of where everyone came from quietly thins out. RootBound keeps one record the whole family can add to — without turning family history into a social feed.
What we believe
- People come before accounts
- Your place in the tree exists whether or not you ever sign up. An account only decides who can edit what.
- Privacy is enforced, not promised
- Contact details stay private until their owner shares them — enforced in the database, not just hidden in the interface.
- Uncertainty is honest
- Dates we are unsure of keep their uncertainty: estimated, disputed, family tradition. Nothing unverified is presented as fact.
- Records outlive logins
- Leaving a family or deleting an account unclaims your person. It never deletes the person or their relationships.
- Faces are never guessed
- Photo face-matching suggests a candidate; a person confirms it. Identity is never asserted automatically.
Who it’s for
The one person who becomes the family’s recordkeeper — and the relatives who join by invitation, claim their own profile, and add what only they remember. One tree everyone can add to, private to the family, always.
